I have a lot of feelings about motherhood and having it captured. Even more this year as I welcomed my third baby. For me, capturing these photos for moms aren’t so much about the pretty dresses and helping them plan their wardrobe and style their children – it’s about showing up and being present. You’ve heard me say it before but I will say it again – it’s so important for us moms to exist in photos with our children.
It’s about feeling beautiful, wanted, cuddled and loved. It’s about opening the door for the quiet moments to become loud and maybe a bit chaotic too. More than anything, it’s about sharing a piece of your legacy and story so that your children can look back on these images years from now. Having professional portraits tells another part of your story as seen through a third party.
Children will always be children. Don’t stress about worrying if they will cooperate or not and leave that to me to connect with them and capture them just as they are. And while the photos of taken on the phones of our spouses, families, partners and friends will always mean something special, seeing yourself in an artfully candid way can be empowering and beautiful.
When we set the stage in the studio, make the process easy and remove the layers that make getting out of the house sometimes stressful… it will unequivocally give us some breathing room to allow for nurturing to show. While these sessions are much shorter than my average offerings, they are immensely rich in heart and soul. Just 30 minutes on this day will be all we need to document how you feel in that moment. Be it subtle, joyful or busy.. this is it.. this is exactly your season right now. Next year or even tomorrow for that matter, when your lost in the chaos of motherhood at home and your comfy yoga pants have made their next appearance- things will be different.
