Cake Smash Session are a wonderful way to mark your child’s first birthday and celebrate the milestone of turning one. This cake smash photo shoot took place in the family’s back yard in their home in Toronto.
FAMILY PHOTOS TAKE PLACE FIRST
Family sessions are lifestyle in nature, meaning I embrace the spirit of your family. I encourage you to play with your kiddo, interact with your spouse and feel at ease. Family photos take place at the beginning so that little one has time to warm up to me. Plus, baby will be smashing a cake after the family part so this makes sure baby is clean for your family images.
INDIVIDUAL PHOTOS OF BABY ALONE
The milestone portion of your child’s session follows the family set ups. Milestone portion is where we focus on developmental changes since our last session together. For 12 months, it’s usually standing or walking, pulling up, clapping their hands, smiling, and really showcasing their personality.

LET THEM DIG INTO THEIR CAKE
After baby’s individual portion of milestone images, we then focus on the cake smash aspect of your session. I provide timeless and vintage inspired props for this session, but also ensure baby is the focus of our time together, too. I do not like distracting aspects in the images so props are kept to a minimum so baby will be the shining star. Examples of props I may bring as things like an antique high chair, quilt and crate.

If your little one is turning 1 soon – I’d love to capture their first birthday milestone session with a cake smash added whether it’s in-studio or outdoors.
